Saquisilí market located in 8 main plazas sells everything from food produce including, oranges, mandarin oranges, potatoes, tomatoes, onions, radishes, avocados, herbs, radishes, okra, red and yellow bananas it also sells meat produce such as pork, beef and mutton parts as well as screaming wild pigs that run around aimlessly in pens along with llamas, sheep and cattle although the latter is 1km from town.
Other interesting kiosks are vendors selling maguey ropes, mats and herbal remedies. It is preferable to arrive around early to mid morning and make sure you bargain due to the intense competition while for the animal market it's best to arrive before 07:00. The local Indian attire consists of small black hats and red poncho garments.

This tour includes a visit to one of the oldest farms in the highlands of Ecuador, which was built on Inca ruins in the sixteenth century. Augustinians settled here in 1580 and the estate was held by them until the declaration of independence on 24th May 1822.

The Spanish chronicler, Cieza de Leon (1553) wrote about this hacienda which is one of only two major Inca sites in Ecuador. This temple or palace was built around 1440 a.d. by one of the last Inca emperors, Huayna Capac, and to this day the remaining rooms prevail as a magnificent sample of the unique style of Inca construction.
