
Tinalandia is a great introduction to the world of tropical birds where more than 360 species have been founded. The drive from Quito is a scene of its own until we reach the town of Santo Domingo. Tinalandia is 3 hours away (120 km.)

Guango Lodge is located at an elevation of 2,700 meters on Ecuador's eastern slope, 11 kms. from the main Interoceanica Highway on a humid temperate forest, characterized by stunted trees with thick canopy and surrounded by a large amount of bird flocks.

This is a spectacular day trip out of Quito to the volcano Antisana, the fourth in altitude in Ecuador, covered with glaciers and snow, and the surrounding Ecological Reserve. High Paramos around the Reserve’s base are relatively undisturbed and support a good number of Andeans Condors.

Yanacocha reserve is located on the slopes of Volcan Pichincha, just an hour outside of Quito, the capital city of Ecuador. The reserve protects a large area (960 hectares) of elfin Polylepis woodland Polylepis forest which is home to the Black-breasted Puffleg (Eriocnemis nigrivestis), adopted as the Emblem of Quito. It is believed that the reserve contains the entire world range of this very rare hummingbird.

The diversity of this ecosystem is such that Pasochoa is recorded to have 125 species of birds and 232 of plants. On this tour you can have an impressive view of the Avenue of Volcanoes. Pasochoa is an extinct volcano located in the Guayllabamba river basin in the Ecuadorean Andes. The current mountain form is a collapsed crater with a semicircular shape. This structure emerged approximately 100 thousand years ago due to an eruption which destroyed the crater and occidental slope of the previous volcanic cone. Lava and ash increased the fertility of the ground in the Pasochoa region, encouraging the growth of a vibrant forest ecosystem.

Sachatamia Lodge is a wonderful privately-owned ecological reserve only 1½ hours from Quito and covers 120 ha. of mountain cloud forest at an altitude of 1700 m. Sachatamia has the privilege of being located next to the protected forests of Mindo and therefore offers a unique diversity of flora and fauna.
