Baños is a city in eastern Tungurahua Province, in central Ecuador. Baños is the second most populous city in Tungurahua, after Ambato, the capital, and a major touristic center. It is known as the "Gateway to the Amazon," as it is located on the Pastaza River in the Amazon River basin, and has a newly paved road to Puyo.


City parks include Cerro Hermoso, National Park Los Llanganates, and Baños Zoo. La Basílica de la Reina del Rosario de Agua Santa is a major church. Nearby waterfalls include Virgen de Agua Santa, Inés María, Agoyan, El Manto de la Novia and Pailón del Diablo.

Day 1: 7am pickup from hotel, stopping for breakfast at colonial hacienda La Cienega (built 1675). Drive south through the avenue of the volcanoes to an authentic Indian market. Depending on the day we will visit a market at: Latacunga (Tuesday and Saturday), Pujilí (Wednesday and Sunday) or Saquisilí (Thursday). Lunch and overnight at either H. La Ciénega or H. San Agustín de Callo.
Day 2: Morning tour to Cotopaxi National Park. At the park we visit Limpiopungo lake (paramo grassland/ Ecuadorian equivalent of the arctic tundra), drive up to 15.000 ft, trek up to Padre Rivas mountain climbing refuge (11/2 hr); stop for a box lunch, walk to glaciers and drive to Baños (subtropical thermal baths town). Overnight at: H. Sangay, H. Luna Runtún or H. Monte Selva.
Day 3: Morning trek to La Cruz (panoramic view of Baños) or rafting. In Baños we visit the cathedral, the balsawood birds carving workshop, the tagua nut jewelers, stop for lunch at sidewalk restaurant in Baños center and visit the thermal baths. Later we continue our trip to Agoyan and Santa Inés waterfalls, visit the Salasaca's Indian market and return to Quito.
